We are called together to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ while celebrating God’s love and grace with the world. Each year we issue a “Called to Serve” brochure detailing the ministry opportunities at Burke United Methodist Church, and invite our friends to make a one year commitment in the area or areas in which they feel led to share their spiritual gifts.

God calls us each in a personal way, sometimes dramatically, more often with that “still, small voice” that comes to us as a thought, an urge or a need to be of service. God equips us by gifting each of us spiritually with special abilities that we are to use to nurture and strengthen the body of Christ. When we respond to God’s call in a way that makes use of our spiritual gifts, we can be effective servants who demonstrate God’s love, and we can experience the profound joy that comes from giving of ourselves in faith. Our Ministry Teams are listed below.

Adult Ministries – Plan and carry out ministries designed to meet the needs of adults in our faith community
Children’s Ministries – Help our children discover the joy of faith in a fun and safe church community
Communications – “Spread the word” about BUMC’s people and activities through a variety of media
Concerns – Nurture, encourage and support the concerns of the church family
Creative Arts – Help plan music and drama programs help with special musical events
Education – Attend to the faith formation and Christian education of our children and youth
Evangelism – Reach out to visitors and inactive members, and enhance our feeling of community within the church
Fellowship – Plan ways to bring the congregation together for celebrations of community
Finance – Help manage our church financial resources
Grounds and Property – Maintain our church facility as a safe and attractive place to worship
Health and Wellness – Plan and staff wellness events for the church and provide input to the parish nursing team
Leisure Ministries – Provide opportunities for fun and recreation
Library – Care for our church library
LifeSign – Make LifeSign contemporary worship on Saturday nights a vibrant spiritual experience
Missions – Plan and participate in our church’s mission service opportunities
Office – Assist our administrative staff in helping our church operate effectively
Older Adult Ministries – Help plan events and activities for BUMC seniors
Parsonage – Help with maintenance of the parsonage, and with updating and purchasing furnishings
Prayer – Respond in continuing, creative ways to Christ’s command to make God’s house a house of prayer
Records and History – Collect and maintain photos and newspaper clippings so future generations can appreciate our church’s rich history
Stephen Ministry – Reach out to those in our congregation who are experiencing crisis by providing one-to-one Christian care and support
Stewardship – Help assure each member of BUMC is afforded the opportunity to make a personal commitment of gifts, service, and financial resources to God
Transportation – Provide support for use of church vehicles
United Methodist Men and Women – Offer opportunities for fellowship and service
Worship – Help our worship services offer inspiration and celebration
Young Adult Ministries – Join “TNT”, our 20’s and 30’s group, or care for our “out of sight but not out of mind” college students
Youth Ministries – Care for our energetic and passionate youth
