Small groups are the primary vehicle for discipleship at BUMC. We gather with our friends and neighbors to live life together, experience the gospel, wrestle with the truths of the Bible, and love one another. THRIVE is the name of our adult small group program.
We know that Burke UMC is a large church in the midst of busy Northern Virginia. It can be difficult to find authentic relationships or a place where you feel you can ask questions, listen to ideas, or explore more of what you hear in worship. That's why we have small groups!
BIG THINGS HAPPEN in small groups.
While all groups have multiple elements, THRIVE offerings cover five key study areas: Bible study, Christian beliefs, social justice, local church, and spiritual growth. Some courses are ongoing, some last for the duration of the school year, and some are short-term groups that meet for 6-14 weeks.
We encourage everyone to be part of a small group. Our hope is to see you in worship, and... a Small Group!

The Disciple Bible Study series, and Companions in Christ are two foundational, long-term (approximately 30 weeks) small group studies regularly offered at BUMC. Classes typically begin in September and end in May. Classes for Fall 2011 have already begun. Watch for these studies beginning again next September. In the meantime, take advantage of BUMC's many other study and small group opportunities for growing in discipleship and knowledge.
