"The Strife is O'er the Battle Won," arr. Michael Helman

Opening Prayer

Loving God of light, we hid in the darkness and you brought the light of Salvation to our eyes and our spirits. We praise you for the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. We have received the greatest good news of healing, hope, and restoration. Praise be to you, eternal God, for this gift of love. AMEN.

Opening Hymn

"Christ the Lord is Risen Today" #302

1. Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

2. Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

3. Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where's thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia!

4. Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Pastoral Prayer & Lord's Prayer

Rev. Katie Carson Phillips

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;thy kingdom come; thy will be done;on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,as we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,for ever. Amen.

"Empty Now" Joseph M. Martin

Tammy Zerbo, Easter 2019

There is a manger far away where once a tiny child was laid, where angels sang and shepherds bowed, long ago, far away; the manger is empty now. There is temple far away where once a teacher went to pray .  He spoke of truth to an angry crowd, long ago, far away, the temple is empty now. There is a cross far away where once a Lamb for sin was slain. A crown of thorns adored His brow; The cross is empty now. There is a tomb far away where once the Lord of Life was laid. Come and see His linen shroud. Alleluia!  The tomb is empty now!  Alleluia!

Scripture Reading

Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever!
Let Israel say,
    “His steadfast love endures forever.”
The Lord is my strength and my might;
    he has become my salvation.

There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous:
“The right hand of the Lord does valiantly;
the right hand of the Lord is exalted;
    the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.”
I shall not die, but I shall live,
    and recount the deeds of the Lord.
The Lord has punished me severely,
    but he did not give me over to death.

Open to me the gates of righteousness,
    that I may enter through them
    and give thanks to the Lord.

This is the gate of the Lord;
    the righteous shall enter through it.

I thank you that you have answered me
    and have become my salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the chief cornerstone.
This is the Lord’s doing;
    it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that the Lord has made;
    let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Save us, we beseech you, O Lord!
    O Lord, we beseech you, give us success!

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
    We bless you from the house of the Lord.
The Lord is God,
    and he has given us light.
Bind the festal procession with branches,
    up to the horns of the altar.

You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
    you are my God, I will extol you.

The Word of God for the People of God.
Thanks be to God.

Easter Message

Rev. Dr. Jason Snow

Responsive Hymn

"Christ is Alive" 318 (UMH)

1 Christ is alive! Let Christians sing.
The cross stands empty to the sky.
Let streets and homes with praises ring.
Love drowned in death shall never die.

2 Christ is alive! No longer bound
to distant years in Palestine,
But saving healing here and now
And touching every place and time.

3 In every insult, rift, and war,
where color, scorn, or wealth divide,
Christ suffers still, yet loves the more,
and lives, where even hope has died

Women and men, in age and youth

Can feel the Spirit, hear the call

And find the way, the life, the truth

Revealed in Jesus, freed for all.

Prayer of Dedication (Maya Rorick)

Most Gracious God, you proclaimed your powerful love by raising Jesus from death to eternal life. We are grateful that you forgive our sins and bring peace to all who trust in you. Help us to offer your forgiveness and reconciliation in relationships with people in our lives. May we respond to your tremendous love with glad and generous hearts. We dedicate these gifts and offerings in the name of Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. Amen.

Thank you for honoring God with your tithes and offerings as we continue in ministry together! You can mail a check to the church office, drop it off in the secure mailbox in the front circle, or click the button below to make an on-line offering. Thank you!

Closing Hymn

"He Lives" #310 (UMH)

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today
I know that He is living, whatever folks may say
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer
And just the time I need Him He's always near

He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives), Salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart

In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary, I never will despair;
I know that He is leading, Through all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing  Will come at last.

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs To Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him, The Help of all who find,
None other is so loving, So good and kind.
