Risk Taking Mission
We embrace Jesus' commands to love God and neighbor through our practices of risk-taking mission & service and extravagant generosity. We offer our time, gifts, skills, and resources to make this world a better place for all of God's people.
BUMC is committed to making a difference in the world by providing immediate relief to those who are affected by hunger and homelessness, and by addressing underlying causes through mentoring and social justice advocacy and support.
We also reach into the world as the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus Christ in our community, nation, and world.
There are many ways for you to get involved!
Because we are called by our faith to “Love Your Neighbor”, Burke United Methodist Church started holding “Change the World” events in May 2010. As our neighbors became interested in this event, we looked for ways to involve the community in helping to care for others and to learn about the needs both locally and far away. BurkeGivesBack was born in May 2017, and since then we have held May and October community events each year packing thousands of meals and collecting literally tons of food for area food banks. Our BurkeGivesBack Community Co-op is part of this ministry.
We're having a YARD SALE this summer and you're invited!
Our first-time-ever Yard Sale event to raise money for our women’s and kid’s international ministries will take place on August 14. This is an opportunity for you to make some money from all those “things you don’t want any more but can’t throw out”! You can rent a space in our parking lot for the day for $20 and sell to your heart’s content! Your space is the parking spot plus 6 feet out from the end of the space lines (you should be able to fit about three tables in your allotted area).
You can sign up for a parking space here:
If you don’t have things to sell, come and buy – the preschool will have its own LARGE space with lots of kids’ items, all to raise money for their BUMP scholarships. If you have kids’ items you’d like to donate for the BUMP sale, you can drop them off between 10 am and 3 pm Monday through Friday until the end of July.
