A Strategic Planning Process for Burke United Methodist Church
Forward in Faith is a season of intentional discernment that builds on Burke UMC’s mission, vision, and strengths. We are listening to where God may be leading us in the next three to five years.
Our goal is not to simply make plans, but to move forward in ways that allow us to live faithfully in God’s presence and in our community.
As we approach our centennial celebration in 2027, we do so with gratitude for where we have been and anticipation for what is ahead. Forward in Faith is about building on the strength of this congregation, deepening our commitment to one another and to God, and discerning how we are called to serve in the years to come.
How the Process Works
This work is being led by the Forward in Faith Strategic Planning Team in consultation with the Leadership Board and CAMLs (Core Area Ministry Leaders), with meaningful engagement from the entire congregation.

Our Mission
The mission of BUMC is to offer engaging worship, foster a deeper understanding of Christian faith, nurture meaningful relationships, and create a loving and inclusive community in Christ that works together to promote positive change in our world through social justice in action.
Congregational Engagement
In the months ahead, the congregation will be invited to participate through reflection questions, conversation, and prayer. Forward in Faith is not a closed process; we believe discernment is strongest when it is shared. Everyone’s opinion is valued.
The team will prayerfully reflect on what you tell us and share key themes with the congregation along the way. Communication will be clear and transparent, with regular updates on this page, in our newsletters, and in worship.
This strategic planning season will take place during 2026, with the goal of sharing a strategic direction for the next season of ministry in early 2027.
