Risk Taking Mission

We embrace Jesus' commands to love God and neighbor through our practices of risk-taking mission & service and extravagant generosity. We offer our time, gifts, skills, and resources to make this world a better place for all of God's people.

BUMC is committed to making a difference in the world by providing immediate relief to those who are affected by hunger and homelessness, and by addressing underlying causes through mentoring and social justice advocacy and support.

We also reach into the world as the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus Christ in our community, nation, and world.

There are many ways for you to get involved!

On December 17 we will be having our second annual Parent Shop for our co-op families. Parents will be able to come to the shop and purchase two gifts for each of their children. In order to make this event a success we need donations of gifts for children of all ages. We will begin accepting donations after Thanksgiving. We invite you to look out for pre-Christmas sales and pick up a gift for the Parent Shop while you are shopping for your loved ones. We also need volunteers who can be sorting and organizing the gifts leading up to the event. Be in touch with Katie Glick ( if you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer.

Gifts should be unwrapped and can be dropped off in our Donation Center outside of the main entrance of the church at any time. The deadline to donate is December 14!

Loving Our Neighbor.png

Because we are called by our faith to “Love Your Neighbor”, Burke United Methodist Church started holding “Change the World” events in May 2010.  As our neighbors became interested in this event, we looked for ways to involve the community  in helping to care for others and to learn about the needs both locally and far away.  BurkeGivesBack was born in May 2017, and since then we have held May and October community events each year packing thousands of meals and collecting literally tons of food for area food banks. Our BurkeGivesBack Community Co-op is part of this ministry.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect people in our community in real ways. You can help us love neighbors in need by donating to the COVID-19 Relief Fund using the button below.

Burke UMC is a part of The United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Committee on Relief is the humanitarian relief and development arm of The UMC and assists United Methodists and churches become involved globally in direct ministry to persons in need.

We've been in ministry in the community in many different ways over the years. Although we haven't been able to participate with some of these organizations in the same ways over the past year due to COVID restrictions, you can read about the ways we've been able to connect in the past by clicking the button below.
